So I recently came across an article that was discussing the plan to revamp the old Star Tours ride at both Disneyland and Disney World. I'm both excited and irritated about this. On one hand it is great to see a classic ride get re-done, plus the idea of anything new in Star Wars just makes me smile like nothing else in the world can. The problem is that it was a huge part of my childhood.
I still have memories of being a small kid and having my Dad drag me on the ride while I was nearly kicking and screaming, only to get off just before the ride started. This went on at least another two times before I was willing to sit somewhat quiet, and somewhat still. I think we ultimately went on to ride the magnificent ride another 20 or so times in a row before I could be stopped.
It's continued to be one of my all-time favorite rides, despite the fact that I have not just the video but all the movements of the "shuttle" memorized. It doesn't provide even the slightest amount of thrills anymore, hell it tends to cause me such bad back and neck pain that I can barely keep the tears out of my eyes the rest of the day. But the memories of my childhood and my love of Star Wars just keeps me coming back time and time again.
All-in-all I think the revamp of the ride was a long time coming, but I can't help feel nervous that it just will ruin the ride for me. All I know is that I need to get out to Disneyland and Disney World ASAP before the rides are gone forever...who want's to go with? :)

ReplyDeleteOh, how I love that old ride, and have since I was a little girl Sad day back in February when I was in Disney world and we all had to get off the ride and come back later because someone actually threw up on it. =/
